The same gentlemen have a group of gold claims on Goose creek, the Gold Band, the Nellie and the Maggie, assaying from $40 to $40 per ton In gold. Towards the northwest of this group Ed Westoboy has several claims from which gold cun be panned freely. In the same vicinity are the Stella, the Dead, wood, the Golden Treasure, rich free gold proposition, and the Jayhawk group, which consists of three patent ed claims, the Alpine, the Jayhawk and the National and two unpatented, the Buena Vtsta and the Falo Alto, Some COO feet of development have been made on this group la tunnels and shafts. They have strong veins, which will run from $9 to $29 in gold. A test of 254 pounds gave a value per ton of 1120 In gold.

The ore on the dump, shout 100 tons, will hauled to the Confidence mill for treatment. Up Pioneer gulch an 000-foot tunnel has been run towards the vein on the Inferno. The Belle lode on the same gulch haa an (-foot vein, which gives re. turns of $9 to $12 gold, and la opening a tunnel 100 feat. After taking the testimony of four wUheesee who had seen Pino only a few hours before his death, laughing and joking, tbe jury found Pino died a natural death. There are, however, quite a number of coal prospects In the vicinity of Raton which are worked In desultory manner, and will soon or late give employment to many men, In tbe last year 112 men less were employed tn the Colfax county-coal mines than In the year before, but the produc tlon of coal waa Increased from 213,972 tona to 213.947 tons, valued at 8473.134.

The Bloeaburg mine ia owned and operated by the Raton Coal and Coke Company, located at tbe town of Gardiner, four and a half miles seat of a branch of the Atchison. Topeka A Santa Fe railroad connecting with the main line at Dillon. The Bloeaburg I tbe Jargest In tbe territory, and has a capacity of 1,604 tona per day. It ta operated upon the double entry system. Most ot the coal is marketed on the New Mexico and Rio Grande divisions of the Atchison, Topeka A Santa Fe railroad between Raton and El Pqso; also on the Mexican Central railway, from El Paso, Tex, south, and on the Southern Pacific from Demlng west.

The coal ta bituminous, and the vein varies from 4 to I feet. The output last year of the Bloeaburg mine was 308.711 ton. Tbe length of tbe aew drift la 2,744 feet. Tbe mine waa operated 244 days the last fiscal year. There to 14.444 acres of coal land embraced In.

the company, in which there ere several eeama of coal. At present, however, only one seem I being worked by the Bloesburg No. 4 end No. both of which ere drift mines on the same vein, the workings of which are connected. The mines are dry and comparatively free from gas.

There are at present aeventy-elx beehive coke ovens of standard sis, thirteen feet ta diameter used by the company. -A large machine Shop, with modern tools; has been erected for the purpose of manufacturing and repairing 'all the machinery In nee on the property. During the tart fiscal year the company erected fifty dwelttag houses, a large hotel and hospital, which, together with the 124 dwelling house already erected and In use by the company, afford ample accommodation for all employes.
