Dec 30.1977 Governor wont rescind transfer of Rodriguez Santa Fe Deputy Highway Director Jean Rodriguez will remain in her temporary assignment with the Health i and Social Services Department, at least for the present. Gov. Jerry Apodacas office said Thursday that the governor does not plan to rescind Mrs.

Rodriguez transfer. Basically, Jean has been doing good work Over at HSSD and shes happy there, the governors press aide, Richard de Urtarte, said. The governor transferred Mrs. Rodriguez to HSSD at the same time he attempted to transfer State Highway Engineer James Bird to the Park and Recreation Department. Bird, however, challenged the governors authority to transfer him and remained at his Highway Department job.

Bird, in a motion filed in the New Mexico Supreme Court, said he was responsible to the highway commissioners. Wednesday, the Supreme Court upheld Birds contentions, and or- FBPs Kenneth Rommel Jr. OS' Officer Kenneth M. Rommel Jr. was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Thursday by the Santa Fe Rotary Club Rommel, 53, is senior resident agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigations Santa Fe office.

He has been instrumental in organizing and promoting the Rotary Clubs Law Enforcement Officer of the Month program, which has cited nine local law enforcement officers for exemplary performance of their duties since the programs inception in January. Rommel, who has been assigned to Santa Fe since 1973 has been an FBI agent since 1951, and has received numerous commendations for his work with the FBI. He has specialized in cases dealing with bank robberies and major crimes for 15 years. In Santa Fe two years ago he was involved in the apprehension and conviction of two men who held the wife and daughter of a bank president hostage. Both men were convicted in federal court.

Rommels picture was in Time magazine this year after he apprehended a former Brinks employee who stole $500,000 from his Brinks truck and escaped to Villa Nueva southeast of Santa Fe. Rommel staked out the mans hideout and arrested him. In 1972, just prior to his assignment to Santa Fe, Rommel was the case agent in an incident on St. Croix, 1T New Mencn adm mow passed, the first one of the season. In the Puerto Rican incident, all nine of the robbers involved were convicted on charges of bank robbery and kidnapping A native of Philadephia, Rommel was a member of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regimental Combat Team, and saw action in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II. He is a graduate of Gettysburg college, in Gettysburg, where he took a bachelors degree.
