SAtfTA »jrW MEXICAN, SANTA FE, K.JML NEW LIFE l« BROMIDE C1P (Continued froni Page One.) ton and associates of New York City. Tho claims ot this company show up well. The assays and tests recently made are very satisfactory. On one ot the claims a hundred foot shaft has 'been constructed with some cross •cuttings and cross levels. These cross cuts are at a CO-foot level. There IB no actual work now going on in these mines; the machinery has I I I cpmpanled tho body homeward. Miss Belle Gordon was advised to come to New Mexico about a year ago, but the hoped for climatic benefit was only temporary. She spent part of the time at Nagel's ranch near this city and when her condition assumed ii critical stage entered St. Vincent's Hospital. Slie was thirty-five years of age. by the request. all Ojo to been ordered whlth Is now at the Tres 'Pledras depot awaiting to be ftauled to the camp. This consists o£ a no-horse power holler, a hoistins plant and a working plant. In another group that Is being worked and which Is showing up finely Is the Whale mine owned by the Isabella Mining Company. There is a shaft 108 feet deep on tho Whale with 00 feet cross shafts on each sl<le. These are now being connected. The ore body In the Whale on ft 00 foot level measures seven feet wide ant! assays from thirty to forty .per cent In copper. At 100 foot level there are 200 feet of cross cuttings In which a very nice body of copper ore assaying a little better than 22 per cent and a foot-wide, has been uncovered. The Isabelle people are getting ready to place machinery on their mine to sink another 100. feet believing that the ore vein will increase in size anJ richness as depth is attained. Mr, Rosenfeld Is president and manager ot this company and this is a rather close corporation, there 'being but four persons stockholders In it. The stock of the Tusas Peak Gold and Copper Company is owned principally by Wisconsin and (Michigan parties who have great faith that their venture will turn out a very profitable one especially If the present price of copper holds up. •The mining camp nt Tusas Is again quite lively. There 18 a TioatoBlco at the store of Chaves and Company, who handle general merchandise. Levl 'Reynolds some time since moved his store from the Hopewell mining district to the Tusas camp and 'these two establishments supply the miners and Inhabitants with their dally needs and that comfortably. Oscar Polasky is the postmaster There are many prospectors In tho district In addition to the miners reg ulai'ly employed -by the three compa nles named and the force of the Tu- BBS Peak Company's saw mill. It Is estimated that there are over 100 men In the district and at the justice o! the peace election last January 45 votes were polled in the camp proper. Developing is also now in course on the well Icnown Sardine mine oE which Richard Colo is the superintendent. Similar work Is going on on the Strawberry and other claims, Bad Road Only Drawback. The climate allows ot out door work and 'mining operations all the year-eround'and therefore is'very' good. The greatest trouble now Is that the rood between Tres iPledras and Tusas Is not In good repair and '.M* RIO ARRIBA COUNTY DISTRICT COURT ADJOURNS (.Special Corresponreiice to tbo New Mexican.) It la Claimed that scarcely any help Is extended on road repairing by tho county of Rio Arriba and lost year the Tusas Peak Company constructed the road from its mine to the mill which cost about *£,000. The Tusas Peak people bavo Also expended about $200 on roads In the district They contemplate In the near future building a tramway from the mine ,to the mill. The latter la to do as much custom work as the district will afford and this Mr. Rosenfeld believes will be constantly on the increase as the indications of great copper deposits running rich enough for profitable treatment, are very good and as development work so far 'has' demonstrated this to be the case. Mr, (Rofcenfeld came to tha district from Manlstee, Michigan, •' where he fas 'been 'In Bie hardware business for'wttiiy"'years. 7 He and, friendsUn,- vested in -utock first In the Tusafl. Peak Cpmpariy and thereafter secured Its control. A more •determined effort will 4e made from now on to put the company on a satisfactory 1>ft8ls 'and to return • good dividends on 'the stock,* In recent years Mr. Rosenfeld has made a study ot mining and TOinlng engineering and is evidently very energetic, Cushlhg an<l far sighted, with, fine business abilities and experience.
