| ROCKETEERS — At El Cerrito, Calif., collegiate rocketeers David Guidici, 21, (left) and Kelly MacDonald, 20, demonstrate demonstrate thier 1/6 scale model of 24-ft. satellite-carrying rocket they hope to launch next summer. If they are successful in orbiting the satellite, it will be the first ever designed, built and launched by private citizens. A 200-ft.-diameter balloon filled with helium will take the launcher (top), carrying carrying rocket, to altitude of 90,000 ft., where rocket will separate from launcher as it fires toward space. Total cost of the project is expected to run $50,000 — considerably less than any other satellite launch.
